The Amarillo Cattle Baron's Ball has been a fundraiser for the Amarillo Chapter of the American Cancer Society since 1989. Proceeds from the Ball funds cancer research, patient services and education.
Much progress has been made over the past few years in cancer awareness and research. But the search for a cure is far from over...
- A man's lifetime probability of developing cancer(all sites) is 1 in 2. Prostate cancer is 1 in 6.
- A woman's lifetime probability of developing cancer(all sites) is 1 in 3. Breast cancer is 1 in 7.
- There will be and estimated 96,320 new cancer cases diagnosed and an estimated 34,960 cancer deaths in Texas in 2008.
- The ACS reports that scientific evidence suggests that approximately 1/3 of the estimated 556,650 cancer deaths expected to occur in 2008 will be related to poor nutrition, physical inactivity, obesity and other lifestyle factors.
- ACS research has benefited anyone who has quit smoking, received a PAP or PSA test, taken Tamoxifen, been cured of leukemia or had a bone marrow transplant.
